This session gives you an introduction to sewing patterns. You will learn how to use a simple pattern and cut out your fabric pieces. You will need to bring a simple pattern chosen from my list and enough calico fabric. My list will be emailed to you on booking or before if requested. In this session, I will explain how you work out your size, how to choose the right fabric, and how to make simple alterations to the pattern. With my help you will prepare your paper pattern, pin it onto the fabric and cut it out.
Dressmaking fabrics can be very expensive so it’s sensible to use calico fabric for this session. Calico is an untreated cotton fabric which is cheap and easy to sew. Until sewing patterns are made up, it’s difficult to know if it suits you and if you would actually wear it.
