SEW BASIC . SEW BASIC INTENSIVE

SEW BASIC

A SHORT COURSE for beginners- £175

I run three Sew Basic Courses a year.  They start in February, June & October.

They all run on Thursday mornings  for five weeks.

The Sew Basic course is not just for complete beginners, but also for those wanting to refresh their knowledge or for someone looking to improve their technique. On the Sew Basic course we learn all the essential techniques needed to make simple items in a way that is inspiring and fun. Rather than making something specific, the emphasis is on really understanding the techniques and how to use a sewing machine so that you will feel confident to have a go at a variety of things once the course is finished. There are five classes in total, and each one lasts two and a half hours.

  • Sewing Machines and everything else is provided or you can bring your own machine.
  • You will get to know your machine and learn all the basic techniques needed to create simple items.
  • You will receive videos of all the various techniques we learn.
  • I will give you lots of top tips and individual attention.
  • Once you’ve completed the Sew Basic Course,  if you want further sewing guidance, you have the option to book a SEW CLUB EXTRA session or some PRIVATE TUITION.  If you want to learn how to follow a dressmaking pattern you could book a  SEW PATTERNS session.  For those of you looking for a regular group there is the possibility of joining SEW CLUB, however it’s very popular so is unfortunately nearly always full. Still, please let me know if you’re interested in joining and if there is no space I can put you on a waiting list.

Techniques Covered: Threading up, tension, seams, seam finishing, enclosed seams, top stitching, hems, bias binding, facings, bagging out, darts, piping, gathering, buttonholes, and a basic zip.

IF YOU CAN’T COMMIT TO A COURSE THAT RUNS WEEKLY, YOU CAN DO THE ONE-DAY COURSE…

SEW BASIC INTENSIVE

A ONE-DAY COURSE for beginners –  £100

This is a condensed version of the Sew Basic Course, which runs about three times a year, generally on a Wednesday

It starts at 9.30am and finishes around 5.30pm with a one-hour break for lunch. There is a Waitrose and several cafés just 2 minutes walk away if you want to stretch your legs!

Everything is provided, including the Sewing Machines, but you can bring your own machine to learn on if you’d prefer.

On this one-day basic sewing course you will learn a selection of essential techniques. Rather than making something specific, the emphasis is on really understanding the techniques you have learnt and how to use a sewing machine to get the best finish possible. Once the course is finished you should feel confident to have a go at a variety of things. In order to fit everything into one day, this is a face paced course that would be best suited to confident learners.

TECHNIQUES COVERED: THREADING UP, TENSION, SEAMS, TOP STITCHING, HEMS, BIAS BINDING, DARTS, BUTTONHOLES, AND A BASIC ZIP.

Once you’ve completed the Sew Basic Intensive Course,  if you want further sewing guidance, you have the option to book a SEW CLUB EXTRA session or some PRIVATE TUITION.  If you want to learn how to follow a dressmaking pattern you could book a  SEW PATTERNS session.  For those of you looking for a regular group there is the possibility of joining SEW CLUB, however it’s very popular so is unfortunately nearly always full.
